Calder brings firepower to town

One of the biggest blockbusters at the trade deadline this season happened when the Kings acquired Logan Calder from the Portage Terriers in exchange for Hayden Lacquette and Slade Stanick.

Calder played the first 170 games of his junior career with the Terriers where he grew up and he will finish his junior days as a King as the club enters a home-and-home starting this weekend with the Virden Oil Capitals.

The former Terrier made his debut with the Kings on Wednesday night which resulted in a 5-2 defeat. Calder had some good chances in the contest and he adds some offensive firepower to a Kings team that leads the West Division by one point over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

“The Kings have done an incredible job of welcoming me and making me feel great,” said Calder. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I’m ready to give it everything I have.”

Calder has had a great season in the offensive zone with 19 goals and 14 assists, a total that has already surpassed his career-high. He was also a part of a Terrier team that won the Turnbull Trophy in the 2018-19 season and a club that won the Anavet Cup that season. He plans on using that experience in hopes of helping Dauphin win a title.

“I think just being in that situation in the past will help me as we chase a championship,” said Calder. “There are a lot of pieces that go into winning and I’m just hoping to be one and I believe my experience will help.”

Calder has moved into the Kyle’s and is loving every second of it.
