WINNIPEG, MB - The Dauphin Kings scored the first three but gave up five unanswered en route to a 5-4 loss to the Blues in Winnipeg Saturday night.
Dauphin's first period in the game was excellent. It saw the team play very well and they were rewarded three times with Brett Piper, Matt Bartel and Bradley Estrada all scoring goals to put their team up 3-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
The Kings, however, didn't keep pushing forward and saw the Blues score five goals, four in the middle frame and one early on in the third to take and hold onto the lead.
Dauphin would play a bit better in the third period, getting the game to within one, but they were unable to get back on even terms despite a number of chances in front of the Winnipeg net. Jaymes Knee had Dauphin's only goal in the final period on Saturday.
When it came to Special Teams things were mostly even. The Kings finished the night 1 for 5 on the Power Play and 5 for 6 on the Penalty Kill.
Now the Kings get a much needed week off to heal bumps and bruises. Grady Hobbs was the latest victim of the injury bug, suffering an upper body injury in the first period. Dauphin's record slips to 4-12-1 on the year and they won't return to play until Friday when they visit the Virden Oil Capitals. The next Kings home game is Saturday when the club faces those Oil Caps at Credit Union Place to conclude the home and home between the two teams.
