Blues Beat Kings 5-3

WINNIPEG, MB – The Dauphin Kings had the lead, but couldn’t hold on in a 5-3 loss to the Blues in Winnipeg Friday night.

After falling behind in the first period the Kings responded 44 seconds after the Blues’ first goal. Daniel Chartrand notched his 12th of the season after a nice setup by Ian Briscoe.

In the middle frame the Kings got ahead when Briscoe got back in the action. Scoring his 6th of the campaign on a bank shot from behind the goal. The tally gave Dauphin a 2-1 advantage with Trevor Selk and Grady Hobbs picking up assists. However, after that it was all Winnipeg as the Blues scored three unanswered to take a 4-2 lead into the late stages of the third period.

Howard Yawit would score his first as a King shorthanded with just over six minutes to go in the final frame. Dauphin would get some chances late but couldn’t capitalize. Winnipeg would add an empty netter with less than a second to play to make the score 5-3.

Duncan McGovern (1-4) suffered the loss in goal, but played well. He stopped 37 of 41 shots while the Kings put 22 on the Winnipeg net.

Both teams were unable to score a goal on the man advantage. Dauphin went 0 for 3 while Winnipeg was 0 for 5.

NEAT: Ian Briscoe now has point in eight straight games for the Kings (6G, 4A).

A Dauphin loss and a Swan Valley win in overtime Friday puts the Stampeders two points up on the Kings for 8th in the standings.

The Kings resume play on Saturday when they visit the Winkler Flyers for the final time this season. The game goes down at 7:30pm from the Winkler Rec Complex.
