Blizzard Slip Past Kings

DAUPHIN, MB - For probably the third or fourth time this season the Dauphin Kings ran in to a hot goaltender, this time in a 3-1 loss to the Norman Blizzard Tuesday night.

Taye Timmerman stopped 42 shots for the Blizzard, many of high quality in the second and third period.

The opening period saw the Kings get a good start when Matthew Thomas notched his ninth of the season off the rush. The goal came just under three minutes in. Before the period was out the Blizzard would get two even strength goals of their own to make it 2-1. Both goals came in the final five minutes of the frame.

In the second period the Kings didn't check in on time and were scored on less than a minute in to give the Blizzard a 3-1 advantage. Norman would control most of the middle frame. Dauphin did have some opportunities late but could not get back within a goal.

The third period had both teams trading chances throughout the game but Dauphin couldn't close the gap. The Kings were dominant in the final five minutes but just couldn't get pucks through.

Cole Sheffield was solid despite the loss. He stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced.

Special Teams saw almost nothing. The Kings did not receive a Power Play on the night. Norman, meanwhile, was 0 for 1.

The Kings enter the Christmas break with a record of 21-8-1-0. They're first in the MJHL's West Division with a four point gap over the Blizzard. When they return from the holidays the Kings will have five games in hand on Norman. The Blizzard still have two games this week.

Meanwhile, the Kings will return to game action on Saturday January 4th when they host the Winnipeg Blues at Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm and it's sponsored by RBC in Dauphin!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. See you in 2025!
