Blizzard Get By Kings

THE PAS, MB – The OCN Blizzard scored two goals in the opening period, and it turned out to be enough in a 3-1 win over the Dauphin Kings Sunday night.

In a game that saw the Kings play in a rink they had never skated Dauphin had a slow start. The Roy H. Johnston Arena saw it’s first Junior A contest and the game moved at a much quicker pace with both teams not having much time or space.

After the club’s traded chances in the first and second the Blizzard grabbed a three goal advantage late in the final period. Keaton Leininger (13) added a goal late to break the shut out bid for the Blizzard. Graeme Hore and Riley Shamray had the assists.

A number of Dauphin players had great chances Sunday. Riese Gaber, Ian Briscoe and Austin Friesen all couldn’t get the puck to the back of the net however.

Duncan McGovern made his first start between the pipes as a Kings. He was not at fault for the loss and played well throughout the contest. The Winnipeg product turned aside 34 of 36 shots he face while his team put 31 shots on the OCN goal.

Power Plays were quiet on Sunday. Dauphin was 0 for 5 while OCN was 0 for 3. The Kings have yet to allow a power play goal against in 2017 and are now at 82.91% overall (5th in MJHL).

The loss slips the Kings to 10-23-5 on the season. They’ll continue their five game road swing on Friday when they play a big contest in Neepawa against the Natives.

Next up, however, is the CJHL Trade Deadline which will hit on Tuesday evening. Follow the Kings on Twitter and right here on DauphinKings.com for updates.
