Bad Start Costs Kings In Virden

VIRDEN, MB – A bad start in Virden cost the Dauphin Kings two points Saturday night in a 6-2 loss to the Oil Capitals at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

The Oil Capitals scored three goals in the opening 10 minutes and Dauphin just couldn’t recover after that. After the first 20 minutes the Kings trailed 4-0, but at the start of the second period the club seemed to gain momentum, with Daniel Chartrand (2) scoring on a 5-on-3 man advantage. However, clock malfunctions delayed the tilt and the Kings’ momentum halting their chance at a comeback in the middle frame. Dauphin still managed to knock in two goals in the second, but Virden held a 6-2 lead going into the final frame and that’s how things would finish. The other scorer for the Kings Saturday was Graeme Hore (3).

Tanner Douglas started the affair for Dauphin but did not finish, allowing three goals on nine shots. Brandon Holtby stepped in and gave up three goals on 27 shots. The Kings outshot Virden 44-36 but could not bury scoring chances at key points of the contest.

When it came to Special Teams the Kings ended the night 1 for 5 on the Power Play while Virden was 2 for 6.

Dauphin will get a handful of days to rest and regroup. Their next outing is Wednesday when they welcome the Swan Valley Stampeders to Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
