Bad Second Costs Kings Game One

SWAN RIVER, MB - An excellent first period, a bad second and a decent third. That was the game one story for the Dauphin Kings as the club dropped a 6-3 decision to the Swan Valley Stampeders Friday night in game one of their playoff series.

Dauphin's opening 20 minutes was arguably one of their best 20 this season. The group jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a man advantage goal by Brendan Arnold (1) and hard worker goal by Grady Hobbs (1) helped Dauphin to a 2-0 score after the first.

In the second period it was basically 17 seconds that determined the rest of the night. Swan Valley scored three goals in that span to go ahead 3-2. They then tallied two more times before the period was out.

The third period saw both Dauphin and Swan Valley score once. Cole DeKoninck had the final goal of the evening, making the contest a 6-3 final.

The officials had both teams on a tight leash Friday, calling a total of 20 penalties (52 minutes). The Kings were the only team to score on the man advantage Friday.

Ethan Slobodzian suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 22 of 27 shots before being replaced by Bryan Landsberger at the start of the third. Landsberger made 14 saves on 15 shots in the final period.

Now the series shifts to Dauphin for game two. The Kings will try to get things back on even terms before the set comes back to Swan River next Wednesday. Game time Sunday is 7:30pm!

The South Ticket Office at Credit Union Place will be open Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday starting at 3:00pm!
