5 Goal First Powers Kings To Victory

VIRDEN, MB – The Dauphin Kings scored five goals in the the first 16 minutes Saturday night, en route to a 5-4 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals.

It was Dauphin’s third straight win against the Oil Capitals this season and sees them close out the six game series between the two clubs at 3-3.

The Kings saw goals come from Howard Yawit (3), Graeme Hore (8), Matthew Greening (10), Ashton Clark (16) and Brendan Arnold (3). Three of Dauphin’s five goals were scored on the man advantage as undisciplined penalties took over the contest in the opening period. The Kings finished the night 3 for 5 on the Power Play while VIrden was 2 for 4.

The Oil Capitals made a push a couple times during the night but couldn’t claw their way back to make the score even.

Brandon Holtby (11-20) grabbed the win in goal for the Kings and was good when he needed to be, stopping 37 of 41 shots. Dauphin chased Virden’s starter Riley McVeigh after he let in four goals on six shots. In total the Kings had 34 shots.

The win is key as it keeps Dauphin in the playoff hunt. They’re now four points behind the Swan Valley Stampeders who were off this evening. The Kings will try and climb a little bit closer to Swan Sunday when they host the Selkirk Steelers. It’s an early puck drop, 6:00pm at Credit Union Place.
