August 28, 2010 - Morning session #1. Team Black and Team Teal were first to hit the ice at 9:00 am Saturday morning. The Kings brass were extremely pleased with the talented young prospects in camp.
“Our young prospects look outstanding. We’re very pleased in their development. Our scouting staff does a great job and the future of our club is very strong” Gm/Head Coach Marlin Murray.
On defense, two 16 year olds have played very well. Reid Burak and Carey Morrison have stood out. Morrison has a real strong hockey sense and moves the puck very well. Burak, a strong physical defensemen keeps improving his foot speed and has the ability to be a strong, dominating player in the MJHL down the road.
Sean Higgins, a 16 year old forward from Winnipeg has looked outstanding up to this point. In Friday’s session he scored a hat trick and continued to shine in Saturdays morning session. “Sean has grown a lot in a year, he has filled out. He sees the ice so well and we really like the way he competes. He goes to the hard areas and does well when he gets there”, states Murray.
Maybe the biggest surprise early in camp has been in net. The Kings recently drafted 15 year old Adam Vander Linden in the Bantam Draft and he has been excellent. “This is no dis-respect to Adam at all, but we kind of went off the charts at the bantam draft and drafted him. Our head scout Mark Johnston and our Brandon area scout Craig Anderson watched him several times over the course of the year and really liked him. He has been real good after two sessions.” – Murray
